past Lightning, 121-107
THOUSAND OAKS – The fourth-quarter blues
struck the Los Angeles Lightning for the second straight night as they were
outscored 37-27 en route to a 121-107 IBL basketball loss to the Las Vegas
Stars.
Demario Butler poured in 35 points and Mike
Tabb added 29 for the Stars (2-4), who outshot the home team 61.9 to 34.6
percent in the final quarter at the Gilbert Sports Arena.
The Lightning (0-6) trailed 84-80 entering the
final period and were outscored 7-2, stretching the Stars’ lead to nine, 91-82.
L.A. never got closer than eight the rest of the way.
Ronell Mingo topped the Lightning with a
season-high 27 points and 11 rebounds. Ex-NBA player Lamond Murray added 22
points and 16 boards while Fred Vinson tossed in 22 points, thanks to 6-of-9
shooting from 3-point range, and handed out seven assists.
Eddie Shelby nearly had a triple-double for
Las Vegas with 26 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
Wayne Oliver tallied 19 points (on 9-13
shooting) and pulled down seven rebounds for the Lightning, who trailed 52-50
at intermission.
L.A. will continue its 12-game homestand at
Cal Lutheran on May 16-17 against the Holland (Mich.) Blast.
